Modern technology complicates our lives but also can provide profound solutions.

Many couples who are unable to conceive children turn to in-vitro fertilization. As is common in IVF procedures, the woman’s eggs are harvested and subsequently fertilized by her partner’s sperm. Then, the woman is implanted with one embryo, while the others embryos are stored. Many times after a successful embryo transfers and a resulting baby, couples wonder about the embryos that remain in cold storage. They wanted the embryos to be seen as babies, even though they were little more than zygotes with two cells.

Today, some couples are offering their remaining unused embryos for adoption by other couples. It is advisable to have both a physician and an attorney familiar in your state laws meeting with a couple to explain the process, both medically and legally. However, embryo adoption can be a good solution that give one set of parents peace of mind about the embryos they had created but not used, and another couple a chance to be pregnant and to fully experience having a family.
